Grouping Levels

White Group (Fundamentals)

  • New to the game OR not understanding /comfortable about basic fundamentals of the game (i.e grips vs swing patterns) spins, serving, movement, scoring, consistency, correct techniques / bio-mechanics, balance and basic court knowledge.
  • Comfortable and prepared to increase knowledge and follow basic instruction with a view to understand clearly how to master basics and have a solid base to improve

Overview of Coaching Methodology:

On Court with coaching guidance given "on the run" with a strong encouragement to understand and develop the most efficient and effective techniques and habits possible at an early part of the learning phase.

Here the coach takes the view that participants want to explore and understand the basic fundamentals of hitting, moving, grips, swing patterns, etiquette and scoring and ensures all these areas are presented during coaching sessions.

Clear guidelines are given using a number of proven methods and clients are encouraged to give feedback and interact with the coach by asking questions or explanations wherever they feel appropriate.

Apart from being taught a strong tennis basic there is also encouragement that the client becomes an active participant in this early learning phase. This is achieved by rather than being lectured to OR instructed on how to play tennis, they are taught to how they can actively assist their own progress to fast track improvement.

At this level, the best results are achieved when the clients are initially exposed to the most appropriate / internationally accepted fundamentals and encouraged to practice these fundamentals to develop good habits that will allow them to keep improving arfter their course is completed.

During all sessions the international best practices are used wherever applicable with a balance given to individual strengths and preferences.

Maximum Coach Ratio to player: Recommend Up to 8 (although up to 12 can be managed with good results)

Yellow Group (Intermediate)

  • Competent to play with most levels BUT most comfortable with those that can rally consistently more than 5 shots from baseline yet do not force them into error because of their more competent levels: can serve at least 50% in with 10 serves that are NOT readily hit for winners by similar standard players; fully understands all rules, scoring
  • Mainly interested & motivated by rallying and playing points rather than full matches
  • Success determined by rating/ ranking/ intrinsic & extrinsic motivated.

Overview of Coaching Methodology:

On Court with coaching guidance given "on the run" with minimal intrusion into the habits already comfortable to the participants.

Although the techniques may not be bio mechanically ideal - here the coach takes a view that if its not broken then dont fix it! (however constant reminders are suggested on how improvements may be made with small adjustments to assist styles already developed that are successful.

A combination of basket feeding and live ball drills are used with this level of player whilst individual styles and strengths are closely viewed and encouraged, reference / suggestions are offered where most appropriate.

At this level, the best results are achieved when the clients are pro active in requesting understanding or further guidance in specific areas they may not be comfortable rather than following a generic pattern of working on basic fundamentals directly from the recommended models.

During all sessions the international best practices are used wherever applicable with a balance given to individual strengths and preferences.

Maximum Coach Ratio to player: Up to 6
